Service to Youth History
As written in Club History Document in 2010 by Chuck Badger Sr.
Youth continues to be a primary community Service focus. "Mention a community activity involving young people and you won't have to look hard to find the enthusiasm, emotional support, encouragement and financial boost from Rotary." announced Roger Rowe, Superintendent of the Rancho Santa Fe School.
Rotarians pitch in, with their usual style of mingling fun and finances, at the Boys and Girls Clubs, by offering Student of the Month Recognition, by helping Eagle Scouts projects, by donating to Reading Programs, and supporting MAEGA (Mexican American Educational Guidance Association)
The K-8 grades in Rancho Santa Fe appreciate the Rotarian tradition of generous financial gifts for their speech, science, history, sports, special needs and school club programs; Torrey Pines High School knows the Rotary spirit is firmly committed to their Dollar for Scholars Program, Booster Club, Youth Recognition, Grad Nite, AFS and the RYLA programs.
The International Youth Exchange is also a huge success. In the words of Matt Wenger, when in France, "I've met so many wonderful people...I'm thankful to you for organizing it from the beginning." Mia Chung wrote in an email from Dublin, "I'm exceedingly proud of Rancho Santa Fe for being so hop in it's educational facilities." Other students have been to Cairo and France; Rancho Rotarians have also hosted students from Brazil, Australia, France and New Zealand.
